The Jefferson City Housing Authority's mission is to create strong, sustainable, inclusive communities and quality affordable homes for all.
The Jefferson City Housing Authority (JCHA) was established in 1953 by J.G. Newman to provide affordable housing opportunities to serve residents of the City of Jefferson City in Tennessee. JCHA is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners and offers housing for low-income individuals, families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Housing at JCHA is provided through the Public Housing Program. JCHA does not participate in the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program, previously known as the Section 8 Program, and is not equipped to accommodate Emergency Housing. JCHA is an Equal Housing Opportunity Provider and complies with the requirements of applicable building codes, housing codes, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regulations. Additionally, JCHA offers fun resident opportunities, including Bingo games!
The Public Housing Program at JCHA is income-based, and the eligibility guidelines are set by HUD. JCHA administers 199 Public Housing units in the community. JCHA is proud of its five fabulous properties and keeps them in decent, safe, and sanitary condition! The Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013 (VAWA 2013) expands housing protections for victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking. Changes under VAWA 2013 include extending protections to survivors of sexual assault; allowing survivors who remain in the unit to establish eligibility or find new housing when a lease is bifurcated; providing survivors with emergency transfers; and additional notification to applicants and tenants of housing rights under VAWA. While these changes substantially extend VAWA's coverage to include most affordable housing programs, they provide no protection to tenants in private market-rate housing but do apply to tenants with vouchers in private market-housing.
JCHA will provide all protection under VAWA 2013 to program participants and family members of program participants who are victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking from being evicted or terminated from housing assistance based on acts of such violence against them.
